Playonmac game no assets7/31/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Now, assuming backward compatibility will be a miss for this game (as the dev should assume if the game is being ported now), even if we pretend it is wise to spend the budget to port the game, the new platform will land by the time (or before) the port is done. Some may believe Apple's pitch on backward compatibility, but as a developer I've been held hostage through PowerPC, various mac OS, and generations of iOS, so I think I know better. I doubt people would be going out to buy a $2000 next gen MAC to play SWTOR, so it wouldn't damage the possible MAC playerbase any. Many will upgrade for other, non-swtor reasons. Originally posted by Augoeides:Even if Apple switches is core design, that would only apply to brand new technology. The original mac version of the game? You bet. Can you still run them on your OS X? Yes, if you run the ported pc version, in a dos shell. Once upon a time a fair number of games were actually developed on mac - Myst and SimCity come into mind. Just like you and your friends consciously choice not to run Windows, the game industry as a whole have consciously choice not to invest in Mac, and not for the lack of effort. Bootcamp is not emulation, which helps close the gap from mac's. I have another friend who also has a MAC, and he refuses to emulate Windows too, even though it would allow him to play the dozens of things he complains about no being able to play.Well, you don't need to emulate Windows. I actually wanted to play this game last year, but I couldn't convince the same friend to play, because she didn't want to emulate Windows (as I assume those 300 Players are). Also, the game has a client outside of Steam, so making the game MAC accessible would draw in a larger crowd than you think.Įven if Apple switches is core design, that would only apply to brand new technology. One of those things is Steam, which is more or less primarily Windows/Linux games. Peak player now at 10k, Steam users are 96% windows and 3% mac, so mac support would gain an underwhelming 300 players.
